Telangan Sports Ministry V Srinivas Goud claimed that in a bid to make the country a sports centre, the TRS administration will shortly unveil a “single” sport strategy.
Speaking after launching the brochure for the 43rd national Junior Girls Handball Championship, which will be held from March 31 to April 4 in Hyderabad’s Saroonagar Stadium, the minister said, “Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and IT and Industries Minister K T Rama Rao want to implement a revolutionary sports policy that will boost high-level sporting in the state. They have always been committed to this vision – under the TRS regime, eligible sportspersons can avail themselves of the benefits of reservation. Further, talented sports persons often receive monetary aid from the government.”
‘A Cabinet subcommittee has been designated to establish a sports infrastructure improvement plan and the development of sports in line with global excellence criteria. The members of the group will shortly present the government with a report on the appropriate policies. The report is now being finalised by the Committee. The approach will not only support sportsmen in towns, it will also attempt to strengthen sportsmen and women from villages and towns. We hope that our efforts to develop a supporting policy will encourage young people in the state to pursue competitive sports to thrive in their particular fields at the national and global levels.

Speaking of the tourist budget this year, he added, “We know we will get a far bigger allocation than last year’s Rs 250 crore allocation for this year’s budget.” In 2018-19, only Rs 17.37 crore were allocated to the sector.
