The boats sail across shallow lakes and canals, which are lined by swaying palms and dotted with Chinese fishing nets. Watch coir (coconut fibre), copra and cashew being loaded onto boats. You can catch a glimpse of the people living on small settlements on unbelievably narrow strips of land between the water bodies. And if you're lucky, you might even see traditional boats with their gigantic sails and dragon shaped prows.
Travel to the picture perfect hill stations of Ponmudi and Munnar, the blue lagoons at Veli, visit the stunning green plantations, discover the exotic wildlife, marvel at the high mountain peaks and deep valleys, visit the magnificent forts and intricately decorated temples - and what's more, each of these destinations is just about two hours away from the next! That itself is a rare advantage, for you won't have to miss a thing.

Kerala has the distinction of never being directly governed by the British. Even during the colonial reign in India, the areas in and around Thiruvataamkoor in Kerala were ruled by the native kings, with the people following age-old customs and traditions. There are no major changes in the life style even today, and the rich heritage and culture are still intact. Hinduism has been prevalent in Kerala since its early days. St. Thomas, the disciple of Christ, later propagated Christianity here. For the past two thousand years Christianity and Judaism have thrived here. Islamic influence is strong in Northern Kerala. This diversity of religious belief is reflected in all aspects of life including food, clothing and even the dialects of the local language, Malayalam.
Kerala is equally rich in art and culture.
